Loewenguth Quartet, Paris

Ravel - String Quartet in F Major
Debussy - String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10

This recording with Debussy and Ravel was published in the summer of 1958 and received a Grand Prix du Disque. It is in mono and has therefor of course the Alle Hersteller label. No stereo exists.

There was already a recording of the Ravel Quartet by the Loewenguth String Quartet on DGG LPE 16073, a ten inch disc from September 1955. But no Debussy. The Loewenguth Quartet led by Alfred Loewenguth changed members over the years. This Deutsche Grammophon recording is of the quartet with Alfred Loewenguth (1st violin), Maurice Fuéri (2nd violin), Roger Roche (viola), and Pierre Basseux (cello). In 1962 a recording of the same quartets by the Loewenguth Quartet appeared on Vox STPL 512.020. And there was a new recording made for Deutsche Grammophon later. Then the quartet has exchanged a few members.

Deutsche Grammophon LPM 18 312. Pressed in April, 1962. Side One is NM. Side Two is EX. The Cover is EX. Very well recorded. Liner notes in German, English, French and Spanish.
